Watching The Signs As I Go

To anyone who reads the words I write it’s obvious that music and the lyrics are what inspire me, and I like to write the vision that comes to me as I immerse myself in the words. The meaning that unfolds in my mind and the parallels to my life as a whole are most likely different than the artist intended, but a great song has a story we can all relate to even if our interpretation is different. What I see and feel takes me away from the daily struggles and immerses me into a world I have control over, one in which there are no rules and limits to ones imagination. This is my respite away from the disturbing world we live in.

As I travel down the roads of this country, mile by mile slipping beneath the wheels, I feel the stress of the past falling off as the sun rises. A new day brings with it the hope of a better future if you are willing to put forth the effort. Each moment should be cherished as there is no clock for this life with which to judge how much time we have left, no way of knowing if today is your last day. Time is the most valuable thing in this world and it’s also the one thing money can’t buy. Nobody knows how much they have so it’s best to not squander any.

With my trusted friend by my side I go forth with no fear of what’s to come. With no control over the actions of others I try my best to focus on me and my goals and what I feel will bring me the most happiness in the time I have left. Having walked away from everything and everyone I knew on my 55th birthday, some might say I’m having my mid life crisis, but I have no urge for a 19 year old girlfriend or a Porsche. No, this is my mid life awakening.

I can no longer sit on the bench and watch the tide of my existence go out to sea, I must take control over my destiny and search out what inspires me. Put forth the effort needed to succeed at what makes me happy not what the world thinks I should do. Careful to not stray away from the path I will hold my head up high and push for a better life. Traveling down my own road, watching the signs as I go, I think I’ll follow my heart. It’s a very good place to start.

Sky fits heaven, so fly it
That’s what the prophet said to me
Child fits mother, so hold your baby tight
That’s what my future could see

Fate fits karma, so use it
That’s what the wise man said to me
Love fits virtue, so hold on to the light
That’s what our future will be

Traveling down this road
Watching the signs as I go
I think I’ll follow the sun
Isn’t everyone just
Traveling down their own road
Watching the signs as they go?
I think I’ll follow my heart
It’s a very good place to start

Traveling down my own road
Watching the signs as I go
Traveling down my own road
And I’m watching the signs as they go
Traveling, traveling
Watching the signs as I go

Hand fits giving, so do it
That’s what the Gospel said to me
Life fits living, so let your judgments go
That’s how our future should be

Traveling down this road
Watching the signs as I go
I think I’ll follow the sun
Isn’t everyone just
Traveling down their own road
Watching the signs as they go?
I think I’ll follow my heart
It’s a very good place to start

Traveling down my own road
Watching the signs as I go
Traveling down my own road
And I’m watching the signs as they go
Traveling, traveling
Watching the signs as I go

  1. Open question…as I end hunting season empty handed again, should I be taking the sign that I will NEVER be good at this, or should I be thankful for the show Mother Nature put on for me?
