Stairway To Heaven

How many times have you heard this song and sang along as though you had written it yourself? If your my age or older it’s probably in your top ten or so favorite songs. But ask yourself, have I really ever listened to the words and applied them to my life? Have you ever appreciated the symphony of syllables and how it resonates 50 years after it was recorded? Yes that’s 50 years! Close your eyes and listen to the live version below before you read on and become engrossed into the experience of what music is supposed to be. Take a moment and feel your own connection to the syllables and the idea as interpreted by you. Then I will tell you my feelings as I listen to it also.

Life is a cacophony of experiences and feelings, an endless road of sights and sounds pushing us to one way of thinking or another. A kaleidoscope of input pushing the boundaries of reality, then balanced by our individual beliefs and mental capabilities gifted to us from birth. How we see each occurrence of our daily existence is tempered by each persons own gifts. How we learn from this is an individual journey we all must travel, but I believe we can improve our response over time for the benefit of our individual lives.

The glitter of gold is a transient thing, pursued by all to one degree or another. Will the accumulation of wealth bring happiness, or will you get to the store and find the shelves barren of the gifts that will bring peace? Can you buy a stairway to heaven or will you realize money is but a symbol of a broken world presided over by those who wish to control others for their own benefit? Yes you need some wealth for the day to day existence due to the way our society is structured, but how much is enough? To each the answer must be decided.

Just as words can have two meanings, the sly and deceiving officials that lead this world procure power with the words spoken as a means of steering the masses towards a goal we may not agree upon. They speak as though all should follow blindly along as if their ideas are the only way to comfort and peace. Many blindly trod the path of less resistance to ease their daily lives never realizing the peril before them. Slowly but surely our freedoms are being eroded away in the name of safety and the common good. It sounds good on the outset but the ultimate result is chains.

As all the pioneers before me thought, the feeling I get when I look to the west is freedom in the vast open spaces. I have spoken many times of slipping away to the spaces between the cities, and my spirit is crying for me to go there. The vision of resting by a campfire with nothing but the stars and my best friend Brandy by my side fills me with tremendous longing I can’t ignore. I have decided to give up many of the convinces common to modern society for the sake of a better life as I see it. The voices of those who stand looking will not deter me from this goal any longer.

The pipers tune I follow has been in my soul for eternity, yet ignored due to drugging and the lack of inspired thought. The answer is plain to see with a clear mind as of late and I shall push forth with no fear to that goal. I will procure a simple means of attaining that freedom in the near future and give up the daily drudgery of this one of two paths I have been traveling down for so long. Never let it be said you can’t change the path your on, never give in to the blissful way of thinking. You are in control of your destiny if you are willing to give up this for that, you are the one who shines the light upon the road of your happiness. Take aim and go.

There’s a lady who’s sure all that glitters is gold
And she’s buying a stairway to heaven.
When she gets there she knows, if the stores are all closed
With a word she can get what she came for.
Ooh, ooh, and she’s buying a stairway to heaven.

There’s a sign on the wall but she wants to be sure
‘Cause you know sometimes words have two meanings.
In a tree by the brook, there’s a songbird who sings,
Sometimes all of our thoughts are misgiven.

Ooh, it makes me wonder,
Ooh, it makes me wonder.

There’s a feeling I get when I look to the west,
And my spirit is crying for leaving.
In my thoughts I have seen rings of smoke through the trees,
And the voices of those who stand looking.

Ooh, it makes me wonder,
Ooh, it really makes me wonder.

And it’s whispered that soon, if we all call the tune,
Then the piper will lead us to reason.
And a new day will dawn for those who stand long,
And the forests will echo with laughter.

If there’s a bustle in your hedgerow, don’t be alarmed now,
It’s just a spring clean for the May queen.
Yes, there are two paths you can go by, but in the long run
There’s still time to change the road you’re on.
And it makes me wonder.

Your head is humming and it won’t go, in case you don’t know,
The piper’s calling you to join him,
Dear lady, can you hear the wind blow, and did you know
Your stairway lies on the whispering wind?

And as we wind on down the road
Our shadows taller than our soul.
There walks a lady we all know
Who shines white light and wants to show
How everything still turns to gold.
And if you listen very hard
The tune will come to you at last.
When all are one and one is all
To be a rock and not to roll.

And she’s buying a stairway to heaven.

  1. Just did a Kansas turn. I am fearful that the day is soon that I will have no choice in how to get there, or if I will be allowed to go in the first place! Boy, I-44 look different than it did 20 years ago, and not for the better.

  2. I refuse to be enslaved by chains and the non sensical mandates that do nothing but control us. That illusion of golden wealth to me lies not in the dollars (though they help) but in the freedom of being outside breathing fresh air and enjoying the simple things. You and I are so alike.
